Typography Programme

The Penrith Museum of Printing is proud to announce the commencement of its new Typography Programme. Typography is defined as "the art or process of setting and arranging types and printing from them".

Our typography classes are being run to give those interested in the art of printing and or graphic design a greater understanding of the craft of the compositor.

These typography classes give participants a practical hands-on experience of the pre-computer age world of letterpress printing using handset types.

Why don't you come and give it a try ?

Jesse at the type case

Learn how to:

Set type by hand;
Proof your hand-set type;
Space lines of type to make a page;
Lock-up your type in a chase, ready for printing;

and then:

Produce customised print on a foot-operated 100 year old platen press (operated by our instructor).
