Again a successful tour

The Penrith Museum of Printing had the boys in town. This time it where the

"Boys Day Out group" from the Hurstville Presbyterian church.

Read below their "thank you" letter.

Dear George and fellow museum team members,

On behalf of the BOYS DAY OUT guys who visited the museum on 1 April 2021, I just wanted to say THANK YOU for a wonderful, information filled and often humorous visit to the museum. We learned a tremendous amount about the printing industry and were thrilled to see all the equipment being demonstrated and explained in detail. The passion you guys have for your profession is amazing!

We had a wonderful time visiting and will look forward to coming back again in the future as new members join our group and will certainly be recommending a visit to the museum to our friends.

Thank you all for a Great Team effort!

Kind regards John Thoms

BUSY BUSY BUSY at the Penrith Museum of Printing

The Composing and Typesetting department have been remodelled to allow visitors to be up close and personal with the handset process and to allow 3 Linotypes and 2 Intertypes to be displayed. Three of these machines will be running for our tours,  as well the Ludlow (Headline setting machine) is also  operational.

Visitors may even get their chance at setting type exactly as they did in the  year 1450. This work was completed by a working bee recently, so a special thank you to George, Ralph, Keith, Robbert, Denis, Graham, John, Reg and Stephen.

The "Spy Ring" comic from early ww2 times has been reset by Keith, another big thank you. The Vertical Miehle is also operational again, so work can commence on to print the Comic.

Walter has revised our video for visitors which can be played during the weekend showing all machines running.

There is still some work to do on the Composing Room and several printing machines need a coat of paint rather than Ink!!

George has repainted several pieces in the composing room which look terrific with new Black paint and Gold lettering.

Anyone who has the urge to help restore please let us know, you don't need to be an Operator as it's mostly clean and paint and quite satisfying.

Stephan has been busy on our Website and it has been paying dividends with visits increasing significantly.

Graham has also been hard at it with Promotions on Vintage Radio and on the Seniors Magazine, from which booking enquiries have jumped in the first week of March.

Two tours have been confirmed with interest from other groups starting to build again.

COVID has certainly made life tough for all Museums but hopefully we see some light at the end of the tunnel.

Our Museum has a COVID Safe procedures in place.

The Penrith Museum of printing would like to announce the signing of three Sponsors. This is particularly exciting as we have been without any new sponsors since the start of COVID. We have not been actively pursuing businesses due to the hardship during that time. We, like all small Museums have been feeling the pressure with virtually no revenue but costs do continue.

A big thank you to:

JDA Print Recruitment via James Cryer
